Sanyo is an electronics company with Japanese roots and an international reach. Its name means three oceans in Japanese, reflecting the ambition of its founder, Toshio Iue, to sell its products across the India, Pacific, and Atlantic oceans. In 1971, it arrived in the Philippines, where it started selling high quality and durable gas stoves. It later expanded its product line to include refrigerators, television sets, air conditioners, and washing machines.
In 2009, Sanyo was merged with Panasonic, another Japanese electronics giant with a worldwide consumer base. However, the Sanyo brand will remain in areas where it holds value to its consumers. In Malaysia, Sanyo's business rights to sell refrigerators and washing machines was acquired by Haier in 2011. This company is also a global giant in the appliance industry and it hopes to create a first-class brand. It aims to inspire Malaysian's homes to live in a higher standard with more energy-efficient, user-friendly, and environment-friendly home appliances for a smarter life and a better planet.
